This would really minimize/optimize the risk of conflicts.

There is a potential risk of collision/conflict with extensions in general if they process the same area. This can never be avoided 100%, no matter what you do.

Basically, you then have 2 options:

1. Make the end user aware that there may be problems with other extensions that process the same area.
2. Contact the developer of the other extension(s) and clarify whether mutual adaptation would be an option.

We have already used option 2 several times on phpBB.de so that certain extensions from phpBB.de can be used together. This is how Toggle Control, for example, was developed: by consulting with the active developers on phpBB.de and also looking in detail at their extensions for which TC would be an option.

However, phpBB.de is of course much more manageable in this area (b.) than phpBB.com.
