Trying to update from 3.3.11 to 3.3.14

Getting this message when updating:
The database update was successful.
The installer detected a timeout
The installer has detected a timeout, you may try to refresh the page, which may lead to data corruption. We suggest that you either increase your timeout settings or try to use the CLI.
The host set max execution time to 90 and upgraded my memory limit. But I still get the same message. I have told them to look into php error log. But what should they be looking at? How can I know what is missing from the update? The forum seems to be doing just fine and the version is showing 3.3.14 on the main acp page.
