are you experiencing HTTP ERROR 500 on your original site? or on a new installation connected to your old db?
If your on a new installation using your old db make sure you have all the installed extensions uploaded to the ext folder as well as any active styles
If all else fails, check your hosting control panel for system resource usage. On some shared hosting accounts you can hit 100% cpu or mem usage fairly easily which often results in HTTP ERROR 500
